BOOK REVIEW
“To the guy I lost, I’ll always wonder what life would be like if we had those extra five minutes.”
Dealing with themes of raw emotions, loss, heartbreak, and unraveling confusion while longing for someone in deep ache, Lost Moments, is beyond an emotive and powerful read written by Shannon O’Connor.
Looking deep into someone knowing what they meant to her; more than it would ever mean to them. Touching on topics of codependency, being sentimental about erasing texts, and feeling addicted to them, the rose coloured glasses moments will strike a chord with the reader. With moments of doing serious and meaningful things of meeting their parents, holding her in their arms, calling them when something wrong occurs, texting her first when something good happens, falling asleep to the sound of their heartbeat and them promising it will all be okay, yet they still turn around and claim it wasn’t that serious.
Time stood still when they uttered the words ‘goodbye’ expecting them to come back as they always did, yet knowing this goodbye was irreparable then blocked their number for the last time. The writer wrote these pieces with such pain it splatters through the stories penned so wonderfully.
As there’s a lot to unpack, anyone who has gone through heartbreak can resonate with parts if not the entire collection of poems. There came a time in the book where Shannon discussed missing someone and not wanting them back, showing incredible growth.
