Album Review - Dagny ‘Side A’ of ‘Strangers to Lovers’

In the last few years, Norvoll Sandvik, now known as Dagny, has been making a name for herself in the music industry, especially as one of Norway’s most exciting artists, live performers, and songwriters.

Now, she’s hyping up for the release of her long-awaited debut album, Strangers/Lovers, that will be out, in full, by the end of the year. For now, she is releasing a Side A with six-tracks.

Side A, opens with ‘Come Over’ setting the tone for the entire collection of tracks that’s to come. It showcases a singular sound of Dagny’s personality and who she wants to be as an artist through her music. It’s a perfect introduction to the two-part album that allows the listener to dive deeper into their emotions while relating to pieces throughout the forthcoming project overall.

Following this, ‘Somebody’ showcases Dagny's extremely talented vocals along with the rhythmic and synths sparking further anticipation for the overall project. There’s a whole vibe present once the song begins that has positive energy blooming as the track progresses truly turning into something exciting. The lyrics, production, and vocals blend beautifully on this particular track.

Next up is, ‘Paris’ which begins smoothly with delicate tones in her voice, soft undertones, a sensual and slower toned-down production making it a great addition.

Meanwhile, ‘Let Me Cry’ picks the mood back up with a poppy upbeat vibe with her vocals more present on this track. There’s an emotional vibe present that will pull on the listener’s heartstrings. It’s a heart wrenching, upbeat ballad turn banger. Instrumentally, it works wonderfully blending each part together as she exposes a part of herself that usually is kept hidden.

‘Coulda Shoulda Woulda’ is a groovy, sassy, truthful track with moody undertones where she accepts what’s what in her life. It’s a memorable, feel-good song to add to an empowerment playlist becoming an infectious earworm.

Last up is ‘Tension’ is soaked in beautiful harmonies with a soft yet delicate vocal tone that feels hopeful drenched with innocence. It’s a fitting track to end, Side A, on a high note.

Dagny did a wonderful job capturing moods, tones, and sounds throughout Side A, showcasing her effortless vocal abilities, arrangement around the instrumentation, and overall sonic aesthetic to complete the six-track body of work.

Throughout the six-tracks, the storytelling is intriguing, lyrically moving from strength to strength following a story from the beginning throughout until the end, with her vocals on perfect pitch. Each song was well crafted with an epic production that progressed the excellence of, Side A. There’s excitement for the entire album, but, Side A, is a stand-out piece in Dagny’s music catalog to date.

The Norwegian songstress is a cult pop icon with her fantastic music releases that never fail to impress. Side A, was a wonderful introduction to experience in style before the second part to fully release her long-awaited debut album, Strangers/Lovers.
