EP Review: Jeremy Zucker & Chelsea Cutler ‘brent ii’

Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler team up for their second installment of their joint musical journey with, brent ii.

Covered in beautiful and thoughtful melodies, “this is how you fall in love” opens the record, exploring evocative imagery in basic form portraying the beauty of their music, narrative, and combining talents. It’s an iconic love song gravitating towards heartbreak with cliché sounds that is a great slow dancing tune.

‘parent song’ is a meaningful track which explores the connection between parents and their children in a delicate way showcasing the growth, need for independence and becoming one’s own person, support, all while the artists’ vulnerability are front and centre of this particular track.

‘emily’ has a sad anthemic vibe to it with heavier lyricism exploring darker sides of a relationship, with an impactful production layered in melancholy. Their vocals entwine on a vivid recollection of the storytelling that is breathlessly wonderful. With an aggressive acoustic guitar strum, it’s an incredible listen.

Coming to the end of the EP, both artists wrap it up with two solo tracks showcasing their individuality as musician’s, vocal abilities, and lyrical narratives standing out all while being a brilliant addition to brent ii. Their chemistry collaborating demonstrates a craftful masterpiece over these tracks.

‘brooklyn boy’ by Jeremy Zucker is piano-driven, lullaby-like track with a gentle voice that appears the lyrics were written as a form of therapy offering another heartbreaking song of self-reflection and hope with their candidness that is truly pure.

‘the stars’ by Chelsea Cutler is a delicate and confessional tune that closes the record out with brilliance. It’s a relatable song and a beautiful love letter that is utterly touching as she sings it with grace. There’s an angelic vibe that is calming and pure with ear catching instrumentation.

Drenched in emotional depth while creating an escapism, the five-track EP is a cosy and emotional listen, brent ii, was beautifully created and a great addition to both artists musical discography. It’s covered in slower rhythms, discussing relationships, faded harmonies, and highlights tender moments balancing poignant moments with personal narrative that will resonate with the listener. As there’s truth in their musical creations, they expose their ambitions, doubts, and overall showcase they’re human, alike to us all with emotions of love and heartbreak. There’s an excellent emotive delivery with this melancholic sound that truly brings the collection of tracks to life.

The collaborative EP shares personal stories that will resonate with the listener accompanied with minimalist soundscape, relatable storytelling, and is overall a fantastic collection of tracks which breaks boundaries as they manage to be honest with moments mentioned over the five-tracks.

It’s a well-rounded collection of tracks that display their amazing chemistry, filled with gorgeous vocal performances, aesthetic pleasing transitions of productions, and the simplicity of their storytelling - it’s a victory EP that will leave a memorable listen that is an authentic collaboration that is full of expression and tenderness.

“brent is more of a place and a feeling than a piece of music,” Zucker said. All tracks were written, recorded, and produced by Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler. brent ii, follows their debut collaborative EP of brent.
