Music Feature: Jacquie Joy

Updated: Dec 22, 2021

Jacquie Joy's background as a singer is first up; she sang and played guitar in cover bands/duos before becoming a solo performer. She got into writing corporate music for years before returning to songwriting and scoring for film more recently. Her musical influences range from The Doors to Joan Jett to Moby to Lana Del Ray to Alexandre Desplat (film composer).

Discussing her music catalog to date, Jacquie mentions that her online catalog is limited as she has written a lot of ‘fee for hire’ music, which she is unable to release, and film soundtracks and songs.

Starting to change this now and releasing her first feature film soundtrack this year and plan on releasing some more of my ‘catalog’ music soon. Then, Jacquie's songwriting process involves a lot of brainstorming as she writes for a wide range of genres; she usually spends time getting to know new instruments, samples, rhythms and reference tracks before starting a sketch.

Now, with the global pandemic of COVID-19 changing the world forever in recent times, Jacquie mentions the period of time has given her a lot of film and video work especially from different regions of the US, in-turn making this time different and exciting filled with new opportunities.

The drive that keeps Jacquie moving forward as an artist is wanting to make new and interesting music and incorporating/always learning about new music tech.

And as 2021 comes to a close, Jacquie tells us she plans to do more work with film music - particularly horror soundtrack for a witches story, action comedy soundtrack for a new york based climate change fighter style film and a sci fi film (with elements of ET!) also starting up shortly; with the remainder of the time having fun in the sun and time with her friends and family.
